Increasing and Decreasing Percentages
Method

  1. Divide the original amount by 100, obtaining 1%
  2. Multiply by the required percentage increase or decrease
  3. Add or subtract this from the original amount

Increase 150 by 10% :

150 ÷ 100 = 1.5

therefore 10% = 15
adding this to the original gives 165

Decrease 180 by 5% :

180 ÷ 100 = 1.8

therefore 5% = 9
subtracting this from the original gives 171
